Art in Progress

Art in Progress

29th March – 2nd April 2011

It is not every day that children get to see artwork they have produced exhibited in a major public gallery. For over 200 children from Belfast involved in children’s projects at OBG, this exciting prospect will become a reality as the work they have created will be shown at Ormeau Baths Gallery in the Art in Progress exhibition which runs from March 29th – 2nd April.
The exhibition will showcase work produced by children involved in:

The Great Art Quest, an initiative designed by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts to introduce primary school children to the visual arts. The other participating galleries in the Great Art Quest include the Saatchi Gallery, Oriel Davies and Tate Liverpool. The project gave pupils from these schools the opportunity to explore an exhibition at the Ormeau Baths Gallery with the help of a local storyteller and visual artist. OBG Artist in Residency, now in its third year this scheme was set up to introduce contemporary art into the classroom; especially for schools with little access to artists or art facilities. Working closely with the teacher and class over a term, the artist and class brought to life aspects of the curriculum.

*There will be a chance for teachers to pick up an application form for the 2011/12 Residency during the week of the exhibition.

OBG Saturday Art Club, This scheme runs continuously throughout the year. In these workshops our team of professional artists work in a variety of mediums and techniques to explore themes in our exhibitions.
