Volunteer Experiences

‘Volunteering at OBG over the past two years has a given me the chance to see what goes on behind the scenes of a gallery.  OBG give their volunteers a lot of hands-on experience so, among other things, I have found myself helping out with exhibition set-ups, assisting at events, invigilating and helping visiting artists during workshops.  I have also had the opportunity to work with a range of interesting people, such as curators, arts admin staff and education officers, and find out what their jobs involve.  These experiences have been invaluable, helping me get my current job at the Ulster Museum where I lead art workshops.’

Seana Kane

‘The Ormeau Baths Gallery has helped me make contacts both locally in Belfast and internationally. It has helped me to further my career as an exhibiting artist, and by helping to set up shows I have met established artists. I have gathered invaluable experience both technically and professionally. Thanks!’

Ryan Moffett (exhibiting artist in Arrivals 2010)

‘I’ve been volunteering at the OBG since August 2009. In this time I have had many invaluable experiences and made many useful contacts. It also affords the chance to meet with some of Ireland’s most exciting and prestigious artists and curators. The permanent staff are friendly and helpful and really make you feel part of the team. They are always happy to offer advice and support to each volunteer’s own projects’
